Dolci Sardi

Sardinian sweet dishes

Traditional Sardinian cuisine differs considerably from the Italian one, but in the season and in the tourist resorts on the coast, Italian pizza and pasta dishes are omnipresent.

If you’re dying to try the local food, it’s best to head inland or try the agriturismo providers. With a bit of luck, you can find some of the island’s specialities at one of the many festivals. However, the chances of doing so are greatest in winter.
Many typical Sardinian candies are also offered at markets.

Sardinian cuisine is originally that of the shepherds and farmers in the interior. Mainly lambs, goat meat and pork is served, in the hunting season also hares and wild boar.
The main principle is to use the whole animal – including blood and offal – as much as possible. The dishes made from it are among the Sardinian specialities.

Fish and seafood are offered almost exclusively on the coast. In the interior, the menu is more oriented towards slaughter cattle.

Besides typical cola and lemonade products, there is also very good Sardinian mineral water. So you don’t need to support the nonsense of buying imported water from the mainland.
The water at the public springs (fontanas) is also of very good quality and can be drunk without hesitation.

Sardinia also has excellent wines from various regions and beer from Sardinian production.

If you camp or rent a holiday flat, you can also cater for yourself.
