Kids on the beach

Most beaches are well suited for children

Sardinia is perfect for a holiday with children. Especially on the long flat sandy beaches, they can let off steam all day, play in the sand and enjoy the water.
The beaches on the east coast are best recommended for families, as there is often a strong wind on the north and west coasts.
The Sardinians are extremely child-friendly and treat noise caused by children with a exemplary tolerance.
Even in hotels and restaurants, you will hardly have any problems with your romping little ones.

Hotels and campsites often offer playgrounds for their little guests. Public playgrounds (parco giochi) are unfortunately rather rare.
In the resorts by the sea, small amusement parks with merry-go-rounds, trampolines, inflatable bouncy castles and the like are set up instead during the high season.

Most agriturismo providers are also very well prepared for children. Especially the pets living there will delight your offspring. Another advantage of these farms is that they are usually far away from busy roads.

There are special play rooms on the larger ferries and swimming pools on the decks of some ships. However, these pools are only open during daytime crossings.
If you are planning a crossing at night, you should book a cabin – especially with your children in consideration.

high waves at the beach

Caution in high waves

Of course, your children will have the most fun on the beach.
Here, however, caution is advised when there are waves. Our children used larger swimming boards that can be attached to the wrist. This way they always had something close by to hold on to. They also learned to snorkel with the help of these boards.
Sand toys, swimming aids, fins, diving masks and whatever else the kids would like to have are available everywhere in the sea resorts. Prices are about the same as in other countries.

Especially on the beach, be aware of the strong sunlight. You should definitely have a sun hat, sun cream with a high sun protection factor and possibly a light-coloured T-shirt with you, because your children will hardly spend all their time under the parasol.
Sun cream with a high protection factor is not available everywhere in Sardinia, most likely in pharmacies or in a “parafarmacia”.
For our children, hair shampoos with UV protection have also proved very effective. Otherwise, the combination of sun and salt water quickly dries out the hair.

In the interior, beautiful hikes can also be undertaken with children.
Children also have a lot of fun on excursions by boat. The tours to the Gulf of Orosei and the archipelago of La Maddalena are especially recommended.

If you are travelling with small children and need baby food, nappies, soothers and the like, it is best to go to a pharmacy (farmacia). The small supermarkets in the holiday resorts usually only have a small assortment of these things.

If you do need to see a doctor, I recommend the “Guardia medica turistica”. This is the quickest way to get help and, if necessary, you will be referred to a paediatrician.
For minor problems, you can also get advice at the pharmacies.
